Sources of inspiration, sharing experiences, testimonials about the richness of ground handling professions and careers: we give a voice to key players in our sector.

Today, we meet Moïse Issoufali (pictured on the right – Photo credit: © Yoram Mellou).

He is the Managing Director of Mayotte Air Service, a ground handling company based at Mayotte Marcel-Henry International Airport.

Coming from a family closely connected to Mayotte’s aviation sector since 1977, when his father arrived on the island following the launch of the Réunion–Mayotte route, Moïse has spent more than 30 years working in the industry.

Combining versatility, teamwork and a lifelong passion for aviation, he shares the values that guide him every day while operating in the unique environment of an island territory: Mayotte.

Appreciating everyone’s role

“Whenever I have the opportunity, I like to walk around the airport and meet the men and women who keep it running every day. I observe what is happening and offer advice whenever it is needed.

Paying attention to detail is essential. We must take care of everything entrusted to us and respond to our customers’ needs efficiently and thoughtfully. Everyone has a role to play, and everyone understands the importance of the work carried out by others.”

Versatility in Mayotte

“Here, our teams are highly versatile. We handle passenger check-in, ramp operations, aircraft cleaning and cargo services. This diversity requires adaptability, but it also strengthens our team spirit.

Having a united team is essential. Everyone understands the importance of turning an aircraft around within a very short timeframe—sometimes just 50 minutes or 1 hour and 15 minutes—to ensure on-time departures, meet airline expectations and respect our passengers.”

The spirit of solidarity in Mayotte

“One particular example of solidarity has always stayed with me. After a series of technical issues affecting overnight flights to Paris, every professional working at the airport, together with local residents, came together to help transfer passengers.

I value knowing that we can always rely on one another.”

Passing on a passion for aviation

“I still watch aircraft with the same sense of wonder I had as a child. I hope to pass that passion for aviation on to younger generations.

Many of our long-serving employees—some of whom have been with the company for as long as I have—also help preserve that spirit and pass on their enthusiasm to new team members.”

People will always matter

“I am well aware that artificial intelligence will continue to play an increasingly important role and may become an integral part of our profession. In the future, robots could support people by taking over repetitive tasks.

But regardless of technological progress, there will always be a need for human expertise: to care for passengers’ baggage, to manage complex situations and to respond effectively in emergencies. Equipment will continue to evolve, but human judgment, experience and expertise will remain irreplaceable.”
