In 2023, the electrification of airport ground support equipment reached a new level in France, reaching 46.3% of motorised fleets, compared with 44% the previous year.

This is one of the findings of the recent annual environmental report published by the chamber with the participation of all our members.

This increase is in line with the industry’s ambitious collective commitment to have 90% clean vehicles by 2030.

However, the mass adoption of electric vehicles is hampered by a number of major challenges. Rising electricity costs, the high price of greener equipment and limited investment capacity are weighing heavily on the sector.

Financing recharging infrastructure is becoming a crucial priority. Without equitable cost-sharing between ground handlers, airports and airlines, electrification could stagnate.

One thing is clear: the ecological transition at airports is a collective marathon in which each player must play his part. Reducing the carbon footprint of aircraft during ground handling will require more than just goodwill.
