The deployment of the Entry-Exit System (EES), the future biometric control system for non-European passengers entering the European Union, has been postponed to a date still unknown.
Inspired by the American ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization) model, this system aims to collect and check Schengen visa data before passengers depart.
This postponement provides additional time to resolve the technical and operational challenges that this new system will create for the ground handling industry.
This process, which will lengthen the passenger journey by several minutes for biometric validations, will have to be integrated into the current procedures of the ground staff. They will be responsible for ensuring that the necessary data is transmitted to the authorities before boarding.
