The handling companies rose to the organisational and logistical challenge of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. By joining forces, innovating and strengthening their teams, they helped make this global event a collective success for the airport sector!
Ground handling companies cover all airport service activities for airlines, passengers and airports.
Collective commitment, the key to success
For many months they had been preparing for this important event, both in terms of the volume of business and the image of quality of service that would emerge.
Now that the Paralympic Games are over, we can finally acknowledge the success of our operations. Our sincere thanks go to all the teams who worked hard before, during and after the Games. All the airport’s professions contributed in their own way to this major collective project.
Meeting a major logistical challenge
This specific peak in activity came on top of the usual heavy summer traffic, which requires us to maintain our skills in terms of numbers and quality, and to recruit and train seasonal staff. Schedules were rushed and readjusted on several occasions according to information on airline forecasts.
Of course, security has created a huge number of constraints for our employees in terms of access to the terminals and the Olympic Village. The reception and loading of the numerous pieces of luggage for the athletes, who often travel in non-standard formats, and especially for the Paralympic Games athletes, for their travel and competition.
Preparing the staffing and skills requirements required a great deal of dialogue with the teams, who agreed to postpone all or part of their summer holidays despite an already busy 2024. But solutions were found on the ground every day and in every company to adjust to the variations in the programmes.
Innovation and accessibility: a lasting legacy
The Paris Olympics were not only a success in terms of airport logistics, they were also a moment when teams and companies came together. It was the challenge we had all been waiting for to restore all the energy and motivation that had carried us through until the crisis at COVID, a feeling of success for an exceptional event whose collective emotion we will long remember.
Innovations have been introduced, such as the provision of wheelchairs for people with reduced mobility on leaving the aircraft, which is now maintained.
Congratulations on this unforgettable achievement.
