A pathway to be built step by step
“Decarbonising ground handling is not just about renewing ground handlers’ equipment fleets to support the transition to decarbonised energy: it is also about supporting airports in implementing the infrastructure and distribution solutions needed for decarbonised energy, and helping airlines evolve and improve their aircraft turnaround procedures by integrating more efficient and connected equipment capable of taking aircraft data into account.
A long-term commitment is required to ensure continuous operational transformation with all stakeholders:
- with equipment manufacturers, to contribute to equipment design,
- with airports, to implement optimal energy distribution solutions,
- with aircraft manufacturers and airlines, to optimise aircraft turnaround procedures.”
Measuring accurately to manage effectively
“In this long-term journey, I often stress the importance of choosing the right evaluation criteria.
We must not get lost in a forest of indicators. Above all, we need to ensure that the data being monitored accurately reflects what is happening on the ground, and that the joint analysis of these data provides clear guidance on the improvement actions to be implemented.
Choosing the right indicators is not always easy and sometimes takes time, but it is a key factor in ensuring that they are aligned with the objectives being pursued.”
