The continuous increase in French taxation on air transport since the health crisis has weakened the entire industry.
In addition to the recent statements by the Union des Aéroports Français (UAF) and the Fédération Nationale de l’Aviation et de ses Métiers (FNAM), the CSAE points out that this increased taxation compromises current investments in the ecological transition and weighs on the development of the local economy and employment.
With a 21% increase in France in landing costs (prices paid by airlines to airports for each aircraft landing) compared to an average of 11% in Europe, the loss of attractiveness of French airports, particularly regional ones, is already leading to route closures and losses in connectivity.
This decline has a direct impact on the regions: reduced traffic, increased isolation, and weaker employment. Even as demand for mobility continues to grow, France is now the only European country to see its airport capacity decline, while its competitors are recording double-digit growth.
Let’s be realistic: directing resources towards ecological transition, investing in regions as well as in security and regulation, requires competitiveness.
To decarbonise, you have to invest. To invest, you have to be competitive.
France cannot remain on the sidelines. The CSAE calls for fair taxation that supports both the ecological transition and France’s position in the European aviation sector.
